The Police - So Lonely - originally released in 1978, re-released in 1980
It’s easy to forget how good The Police sounded in 1979. They went on to record more commercial songs and Sting turned into an eighties ego freak. But I really loved the first two Police albums, Outlandos D’Amour and Regatta Du Blanc. Their earlier songs were still simple, catchy pop songs but they were enthused with drummer Stewart Copeland’s dub reggae beats.
So Lonely was on the debut album Outlandos D’Amour and originally released as a single in 1978. But it didn’t chart until it was re-released in 1980.
Sting has since admitted the song was based on Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry.
