Stereophonics – Best Of You (Foo Fighters cover version)

Stereophonics come from a small village called Cwmaman, near Aberdare in South Wales. Kelly Jones and Richard Jones are not related but grew up together and began writing and performing with original drummer Stuart Cable.

Their first gig in 1992 was at the Cwmaman Workmens Club and in 2007 they returned to play a special acoustic set from the club as part of Jo Wiley’s Radio 1 Live Lounge radio show.

As part of this special set they performed a cover version of Best Of You by Foo Fighters.

Stereophonics have since grown to be a four-piece and Kelly Jones (vocals and guitar) and Richard Jones (bass) have been joined by Javier Weyler (drums) and Adam Zindani (lead guitar).

In 1996 The Stereophonics were the first group to be signed by the newly formed record label V2 owned by Richard Branson. On signing they dropped the word ‘The’ and simply became known as Stereophonics.

It was in 1997 that I first heard Stereophonics when they released four great singles from their excellent debut album – Word Gets Around.  The singles were Local Boy in the Photograph, More Life in a Tramps Vest, A Thousand Trees and Traffic.

Word Gets Around peaked in the UK album charts at no. 6.  But since then Stereophonics have released five consecutive no. 1 albums in the UK.  Furthermore, those six albums have given Stereophonics an amazing 25 top 40 singles in the UK.

In 2005, their hit single, Dakota became the band’s biggest hit, reaching #1 on both the UK Singles chart and the UK Downloads chart.  It also became the bands’ first hit single in the United States, reaching no. 34 in the official Billboard charts.

Sterephonics are fronted by the distinctive golden gravel tonsils of Kelly Jones and play uplifting indie rock music.  They are currently on tour in the United States and will be returning to tour the UK in December.You can buy Stereophonics tickets for the UK dates now.

The dates include two dates at the International Arena, Cardiff on 6th and 7th December and culminates at the O2 Arena in London on 20th December.
