Magazine - Motorcade

Magazine - Motorcade Live in Manchester (originally shown on Granada TV’s So It Goes), 1977

In 1977 Howard Devoto left the commercial-bound Buzzcocks, a group he had formed only one year previously with Pete Shelley. Devoto said he had outgrown Buzzcocks; and watching this wonderful live performance of Motorcade in Manchester in 1977 you can understand it is a million miles away from Buzzcocks’ Top 20 pop classic Ever Fallen In Love of the same year.

Magazine are sometimes overlooked or not given the credit they deserve as being one of the very first bands to move on from the three chord punk rock formula, to help pave the way for more experimental, less standard rock sounding acts; the likes of Joy Division, Public Image and Echo & The Bunnymen.

Magazine was also gifted with having John McGeoch on guitar and Barry Adamson on bass.
