It was 1984 when Lloyd Cole and the Commotions released their debut album Rattlesnakes. An excellent album which spawned the singles Perfect Skin and Rattlesnakes, both minor hits in the UK.
But it was the second album Easy Pieces, a year later that pushed the band into the commercial spotlight. The album contains the band’s most successful singles Lost Weekend and this one, Brand New Friend.
“Walking in the pouring rain, walking with Jesus and Jane” is a brilliant opening line by anyone’s standards, I was surprised at how fresh this sounds, having not heard it for years.
