Jimi Hendrix Experience - The Lulu Show BBCtv 1969

In 1969 Lulu (who still looks better today than she did then) had her own television show on prime time Saturday night BBC television.  Each week a guest artist would play live before a studio audience.  When the Jimi Hendrix Experience were booked to play they were at the height of their popularity in the UK, and had just been voted Best Group of The Year by the US Billboard Charts.

Here’s the performance in its entireity.  Jimi Hendrix Experience play Voodoo Chile before Lulu introduces the track that first brought them commercial success in the UK - Hey Joe.  During the song Jimi manages to tune his guitar and include the riff to The Beatles’ Day Tripper before stopping the performance short.  He announces “We’re gonna stop playing this rubbish and dedicate this song to the Cream”.

The threesome then do an ad-hoc rendition of the Cream classic Sunshine Of Your Love.

Now, you don’t get that kind of thing on Ant and Dec, do you?
