One of the most successful bands to come out of the Seattle based Grunge scene at the start of the nineties, Pearl Jam are about to kick off their short European tour with a special intimate warm up gig at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on August 11th.

Tickets for the show go on sale today, Friday 24th, and are bound to sell very quickly. Pearl Jam will continue the tour with dates in Rotterdam, Holland and Berlin, Germany before returning to the UK for one night in Manchester at the MEN Arena and next day in London’s O2 Arena.

The brand new Pearl Jam album Backspacer is scheduled for release in September and the band will be previewing tracks from it at the upcoming shows. Fans who have pre ordered the album will also have the chance of pre sale tickets for the Shepherds Bush gig.

It is almost twenty years since Pearl Jam burst onto the alternative rock and grunge scene with the album Ten, spawning the excellent single Alive bringing them to prominence to the MTV generation. In fact the band are currently in the process of re-releasing their back catalogue of albums as part of the run up to their twentieth anniversary in 2011. Ten was released earlier this year with some new bonus tracks added with the others to follow over the next 18 months. A retrospective movie directed by Cameron Crowe is also planned for the twentieth anniversary.

Here is a clip of Jeremy from the album that started it all for Pearl Jam, Ten, still a firm favourite for many, certainly for me.
