The announcement surprised me and no doubt countless others; and I am already looking forward to what should be live performances to remember.

The last UK festival to be graced by Radiohead was Glastonbury in 2003 when they delivered a perfect performance. BBC television only showed a few songs on the night of the performance but here is the complete concert.

Coldplay have become one of the biggest pop groups in the world.  They make simple, catchy pop songs accompanied by singer / songwriter Chris Martin’s distinctive vocals.

Since their first hit single, Chris Martin has always been happy to put his name to politically-charged protest groups such as Amnesty International and Greenpeace.  Coldplay have also been heavily involved with charities such as Make Poverty History and Oxfam.

In 2006 Coldplay headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.  The Saturday night slot is seen as the most prestigious of all UK music festivals.  Headlining the festival was possibly a benchmark whereby Chris Martin and Coldplay could say they had well and truly ‘arrived’.

The show went well and was given the seal of approval by Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis, a self-confessed Coldplay fan.

Coldplay are currently on a World Tour promoting their fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (also simply known as Viva la Vida) which was released earlier this year.  Coldplay have released two singles from the record: Violet Hill and Viva la Vida, with the latter becoming the band’s first single to reach number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Coldplay have sold a phenomenal number of albums.  Sales currently stand at over 5 million copies worldwide.
