Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – 4th of July Asbury Park (Sandy) – Hammersmith 1975

John Williams - Friday 31.07.09, 20:43pm

In 1975 Bruce Springsteen visited the UK for the first time to play at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. Springsteen’s arrival had been announced as though it were the second coming with posters asking Are You Ready For This and Jon Landau’s famous quote “I saw rock and roll future, and its name is Bruce Springsteen. And on a night when I needed to feel young, he made me feel like I was hearing music for the very first time.”

I wasn’t ready and missed the concert, having to wait ten years before getting to see him. But Landau was right at the time and how I regret missing this concert.

4th July Asbury Park (Sandy) was taken from the excellent 1973 album The Wild the Innocent and The E Street Shuffle, it is one of my favourite Springsteen tracks, particularly this version.
