Despite fitting the genre known as progressive rock in the early seventies, Hold Your Head Up was a big hit for Argent in 1972. Rod Argent had started out playing keyboards and songwriting for The Zombies in the early to mid sixties.

When The Zombies split up in 1968, Rod Argent formed Argent with fellow Zombie Chris White as a non playing songwriter.
